Life is a funny thing.
I've been doing a lot of thinking about what I want to rename this blog when I buy a domain name. I mean, I won't always be in college, so I think the name should change. But what should it be? Well, I've finally decided.
Memories are a big part of my life. Good or bad, wonderfully beautiful or horribly ugly, how you remember something affects your perspective of that thing. Personally, I have a lot of great memories and a lot of horrible memories. I'm sure everyone does. One I remember in particular happened about 3 years ago, when I was a senior in highschool. It was late, and I was out with a few of my good guy friends. We had been driving around the west side of Cincinnati, drinking bubble tea and hanging out at a parish festival. The people I was with were very unique; two were gay, and the other calls himself a Communist. Regardless, they were fun to be around.
The night was pitch black, and we were killing time until I had to leave to come home. So, what did we decided to do?
We decided to look at the stars.
We laid on top of my car, everyone holding hands and just relaxing. It was peaceful. And beautiful. We talked about writing poetry and gay rights and playing music. I don't remember everything we talked about. I just remember that we were all having a great time just being together and absorbing the calm around us.
I have memories of spending my summer on the phone from 11pm to 6am with a boy I liked, just talking about life and our day and people we had crushes on. I remember sitting on the swings after school with a girl I did theatre with and laughing. I remember being terrified when my best friend and I got into a car crash, totaling the car and sending her to the hospital. I remember being grounded for a month and a half because of my journal being read. I remember seeing my first Broadway Across America show at The Aranoff, Disney's "The Lion King," with a boy I used to be head over heels for. I remember being a member of a clique that hurt people's feelings. I remember having no friends in grade school. I remember giving my heart away in college. I remember losing people's trust, dancing in the rain, doing things I told myself I would never do, having regrets, and having the best time of my life. I remember becoming a vegan. I remember a lot.
I am saying that memories are a natural part of who we are, and so are all the moments that memories are made of.
One of my favorite songs is called "White Daisy Passing" by Rocky Votolato. Look it up; both the music and the lyrics are beautiful. It talks about how quickly life moves and how we wish we could slow down each moment and really take it in. Yet it quickly passes, and soon that moment is gone. It becomes a memory we replay in our head. And those memories are things we pass along to each other, like giving each other beautiful flowers. We don't realize the true beauty of that moment until we look back on it; we never realize the magic as it takes place.
Being vegan totally relates to this. I think vegans, better than anyone, understand life is precious and needs to be cherished. We see this by how vegans abstain from eating or using animal products in their life because of their love for the life of animals, the beauty of the environment, and having better health so they can live longer. People call us hippies, but hippies were all about peace and love, and how can that be a bad thing? Love life and be at peace with the life your living. Eat differently. Save lives. Save the planet. Save yourself. It's that simple.
So, for me, I like to pass daisies. I like to share my experiences with others, especially in the world of vegan baking. Yet this blog will not be JUST a vegan baking blog. It will also be a blog about my life and who I am, which I think will make blogging much more enjoyable. Plus, it will help me to get some more experience with writing non-fiction in a journalistic type of environment.
Hopefully this change will happen very soon. With this change, there will be a change of site design. Please comment and let me know your thoughts :)
Much love,
A very nice, insightful post. :) I like the new, whimsical name and direction of your blog.
