Product Review: Nacho Mom's Queso

I've never really liked queso. or nacho cheese. ever.
Okay, really just nacho cheese...I've never had queso, vegan or non-vegan. So naturally, I was a little skeptical about how a vegan queso would taste.
Then I tried Nacho Mom's, who sent me a jar of each flavor to try!

Their original "Ultimate Vegan Queso" is SO. FREAKIN. GOOD. Seriously!
It had an incredibly smokey flavor, like someone dumped a bottle of liquid smoke in the jar, but it's really not overpowering. It's just the right amount. It's also VERY creamy and smooth, and has nice big chunks of tomatoes. Which is good, because it has a very tomatoe-y base. Since I'm not sure what regular queso tastes like, I can't compare it with the real deal (you can find a comparison of the two here), but I think it rocks.

It also rocks because each jar has only 160 calories. So you can eat the entire jar by yourself and feel GUILT FREE! Except maybe feeling guilty that you didn't share with anyone else!
Nacho Mom's quesos are also all dairy free, cholesterol free, fat free, nut free, and soy free! Phew!

Next I tried their "Fire Roasted Queso," which happens to be gluten-free! This tastes very similar to the original, although it does have a bit more spice from the added chipotle peppers and fire-roasted tomatoes. Other than that, not a huge difference from the original. Still very tasty!

Finally, I tried their "Voodoo Queso," which is really a combination of a black bean dip and queso! Do you like the Mexican Dip I made with it?

I took this dip to a Thanksgiving party (an "un-Thanksgiving" party, to be exact), and everyone loved it. In fact, one of my friends asked if she could take the leftovers home! That right there tells you this dip was a hit!

My initial reaction was "woah! lime!" But you know what? I LOVE lime! Especially a strong lime flavor! So I was pretty excited about it. The dip was really creamy and smooth, plus it was full of nutrients thanks to the black beans. This was my favorite of the three dips!

Yuou'll also get some B-12 vitamins from these dips, since all of them are made with nutritional yeast!

Overall, Nacho Mom's was definitely a great experience. It was not at all what I was expecting (I'm not even sure WHAT I was expecting...), but it was definitely delicious. I'm not going to lie...I also did try it cold straight for the jar. And it was fabulous. Even more fabulous when you microwave it and eat it with some chips!

The Daisy Rating
4.5/5 daisies!

Have you had real queso before? What do you think? What about Nacho Mom's?
Much love,

  2. I have had real queso before when I was little , and with me living in Texas. Queso is a big thing down here in Houston area, so I am going to try Mom's Nacho Queso because I will not be left out. I personally used to like queso but now that I am vegan I haven't found any queso that I like which is vegan.

  4. Mmmm....sounds delicious! I loved queso and I've made nachos using different cheezy sauces, but would love to give this a try. I'll have to look for it at Whole Foods now. :)
